Wow, I’m way behind on this blog.
Well since the last entry, I have been officially diagnosis with gestational diabetes. In late April, I took a one hour glucose test that scored over 200 while the limit was 140. Therefore, I was asked to return to the lab for a possible three hour glucose test. If my initial test after an overnight fasting is below 95, I can stay and take the three hour test. If my score is over then I’ll be diagnosis with gestational diabetes. My score was 98, so good news was I didn’t have to sit around for the three hour test but the bad news was I was officially diagnosis with gestational diabetes.
In the week following, I attended a gestational diabetes class where nurses trained me and other expecting mothers in the same boat how to read nutrient labels and how to count our carbohydrate intakes. Following the class were instructions on how to test our sugar levels 4 times a day, first thing in the morning and after each meal. The test results are then reported to a nurse during a weekly over the phone appointment. I have had two over the phone appointments thus far and the nurses have been very supportive. My sugar levels are not perfect with occasional spikes of high sugar levels throughout the week depending on what I eat. The nurse and I discuss what I ate and how I can better control the sugar levels.
It has been a huge challenge to stay disciplined with what I eat since I never had to do so in my entire life. But, everyday is a learning experience and keeping our baby’s health in mind does help ease the torture. Apart from eating right, exercising and testing my sugar levels, the baby is healthy as can be or so the doctors can tell and I can feel.
Oh yes, I feel him these days and doing quite a job at it! I’ve been doing the kick counts and we normally get to 10 kicks before 10 minutes. One afternoon last week, I was standing at my desk at work and he kicked me so hard, I fell back into my chair with a major contraction with pain beyond the real deal. I relaxed, took a few breathes of air and a few sips of water and it was over :o) Hope he doesn’t do that again! Nonetheless the more minor movements are very encouraging and give me a side of relief to know that he’s alive and well and having a time of his life in there. At times, it does really seem like he wants to stretch his way out of my stomach with little bunches and bumps here and there. I believe it is time I keep a camera nearby to catch him in action :o)
Other updates to expect, Yogi and I have been thinking feverishly on a name for this baby. We have used one of Abbey's names as the middle name, thank you Abbey!! But is still undecided on the first name :o/ Hopefully we can make up our minds soon cus it's really starting to stress me out!
Also a special thank you to our sisters (mines and Yogi's) for hosting a small baby shower for us in late June with close family and friends. We apologize if you were not invited. We wanted to keep it small and managable especially since we already have many of what we need for the baby :o)
That’s all for now…hope you all have a great Memorial Weekend!!

Wow. That must have been a mega crazy kick! Sorry to hear about the diabetes; that would suck. Drives you nuts to watch what you eat all the time, doesn't it? Hang in there.
